The chapter responds to numerous disasters including single family home fires, families displaced by flash floods, emergency messages for military personnel through the Service to Armed Forces program, pre-deployment briefings to service members and families, and more.

Chartered on October 8, 1978, the ARC-NMI Chapter maintains a 365-day-a-year Disaster Action Team (DAT) with trained individuals as “first responders” during time of need. They assess damage, provide immediate assistance with food, clothing and shelter and assist by providing contact with Red Cross trained mental health specialists and other community based social services agencies.

Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges (FKWR) serves as a nonprofit “Friends Group,” supporting the environmental and wildlife conservation, historic preservation and community education programs of the Kauaʻi National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) Complex, which includes Kīlauea Point NWR, Hanalei NWR and Hulēʻia NWR.
